Seminars
Launched in 1999, our Seminar Series was designed to provide basic information on family law enabling program volunteers to assist more mothers than can be served individually. Seminar topics and practical tips help women help themselves, and include placement issues, guardianship, the foster care system, termination of parental rights, legitimation, child custody, visitation and child support.
Direct Legal Services
In the past, CPB-FLP has identified experienced family law attorneys to volunteer. This volunteer effort has resulted in pairings that assist incarcerated mothers in maintaining visitation with their children and preventing the termination of their parental rights.
Resource Guide / Other Relevant Resources
CPB-FLP publishes a Legal Resource Guide which focuses on family law issues. The CPB-FLP Legal Resource Guide provides information on custody, guardianship, visitation, deprivation and termination of parental rights. CPB-FLP also provides legal forms and letter templates incarcerated mothers can use in their self-help effort.
Law School Intern Training
CPB-FLP provides year-round training opportunities for currently enrolled law students. Under the supervision of the Legal Director, students respond to correspondence from incarcerated mothers, conduct legal research, and meet with the attorney volunteers to brainstorm cases. They also work with the Legal Director to prepare motions.
