The Civil Pro Bono Family Law Project (CPB-FLP) mission is to represent incarcerated mothers on issues affecting their rights with regard to their minor children. The mothers have access to civil legal information and attorneys to help them make the best decisions for their families and improve the quality of life of their children.
CPB-FLP provides program participants with seminar training, direct legal services and access to relevant resources.
Metro-area lawyers volunteer to represent incarcerated mothers in custody, guardianship, visitation, deprivation and termination of parental rights cases. Based on current trends, CPB-FLP will serve approximately 600 clients this year.
CPB-FLP provides a unique service. It is the only organization in the southeastern region of the United States that provides civil legal services to incarcerated mothers and their children. CPB-FLP is a viable, sustainable vehicle to assist in preserving the family unit, to minimize the disruption in children’s lives, to restore children’s contact with their mother, and to reduce the harm that children suffer when their mother is in prison.
